Dibble's journey of expansion and growth from Arizona to Colorado

KENT NORCROSS

In an exclusive interview with MetroWire Media, Dibble's Vice President of Land Development, Kent Norcross, delves into the firm's growth and expansion into the Denver market.

MWM: Tell us about Dibble’s beginnings and your expansion into the Denver market.

KENT NORCROSS (KENT): Dibble was founded in 1962 in Arizona by Ben Dibble. Other engineers quickly joined Ben as they sought to design and develop a variety of infrastructures throughout the Phoenix Valley.

Dibble’s three initial clients – the Arizona Department of Transportation, the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County – are still clients today alongside more recent projects at Arizona State University Stadium, Sky Harbor Airport, PVC Lined Concrete Rehabilitation Program, University of Arizona Health Sciences Education Building and Banner Health Cancer Care Medical Center. Throughout these six decades, Dibble continuously supported its mission to provide opportunities for its staff to pursue new work and be a vital part of the firm’s growth.

In the mid-1990s, Dibble adjusted its operating structure to a practice-based operating model, which enabled it to grow steadily for 25 years. Over the last decade, Dibble’s leadership built strategies that established stability, ongoing project work and project and learning opportunities for staff that included work outside Arizona.

In 2017, Dibble opened its Denver office with a passionate aviation team led by Jared Bass, PE, and Ryan Toner, PE. They worked earnestly to reach out to general aviation and commercial service airports throughout Colorado to bring their personalized approach to every airport client to help them achieve funding, develop long-term project programs and build new projects. Dibble’s Denver office has grown to include transportation and land development services similar to its Arizona operations. The firm aims to provide an unmatched client experience that lets clients know that their needs come first and that their projects will be delivered successfully.

MWM: What types of projects have you worked on in the Denver metro? Which ones are you most proud of?

KENT: Dibble’s projects extend outside the Denver metro area to include airports throughout the state from Durango Airport to Salida, from La Junta to Northern Colorado Regional Airport, Goddard School in Littleton, Banner Health McKee parking lot renovation, La Junta Brick and Tile Trail, Chilled Water Line Extension at CU Boulder, and Prairie Avenue to Minnequa Lake Trail. As we grow in the Denver area, Dibble looks forward to contributing to the City and County’s growth and future.

MWM: Dibble’s purpose is “to have a positive impact in our communities.” How (and why) have you aligned your core values as key drivers of your purpose?

KENT: Our purpose drives our commitment to serving our employees, clients, partners, and communities. We believe in making a difference because our set of values keeps us focused on what’s most important to us- growth that is fueled by our client’s success, achieving greatness by investing in our people, giving to our communities, earning trust and loyalty, building our reputation together and always acting with professionalism. We hold to the foundation that brought us together and will continue to serve our mission for many years.

MWM: How is Dibble Different?

KENT: Dibble is a growing regional firm with deep roots in the Southwest and a vision for bringing our multi-disciplinary consulting services to communities in Colorado. We combine that with our culture of caring that extends beyond our internal walls to the communities where we work and live. Our growth brings with it expertise equal to a national firm while remaining nimble enough to respond quickly to our clients. We strive to provide our clients with a single place for all their civil engineering services for the entire life of their projects.

MWM: What are some of the charities you work with?

KENT: We currently work with the Parker Task Force Food Bank and recently collected 200 pounds of groceries and contributed financially. As a firm, we support more than 35 organizations in the Southwest.

MWM: What does the future look like for Dibble? Plans for expansion?

KENT: Dibble is excited to continue building our Denver office, which will become our Rocky Mountain Regional Office. We aim to provide Dibble’s services out of our Denver office, including survey, water and wastewater system design, utility infrastructure rehabilitation, structural design and drainage planning and design services.

As a dynamic, nimble full-service planning and engineering firm in the Southwest, Dibble offers many opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.

We are looking to hire motivated individuals to help with our firm's growth in Colorado and create a platform for leadership creativity, knowledge, initiative and expertise in engineering to flourish.
