There’s about to be a new medical marijuana business in St. Louis’s Central West End.
Liberty Cannabis dispensary will open in mid-November on Euclid between Laclede and Forest Park Parkway, in the former home of a long-time neighborhood hangout, Tom’s Bar and Grill, which closed during the pandemic.
The business is part of Josh Genderson’s Holistic Industries, a Washington, DC-based cannabis company with 15 locations around the country to date — with plans to double in revenue and staffing this year.
While the interior is sleek and modern, the exterior is still architecturally consistent with the building’s surroundings and Tom’s Bar personality. The new owners have retained iconic elements of the façade — the brick material and the stonework, including faces framing the entry.
“This was a collective decision for the team in wanting to keep the building’s original character alive,” said Lee Riley, retail market director for Holistic.
The 2,303-SF property is a popular and valuable resource for Holistic.
“The facility on Euclid is a landmark building dating back to 1905,” Riley said. “We took strides to keep any possible existing condition of the building in place. Throughout design and development, we were approached multiple times by interested parties hoping to trade for the location.”
“We wanted to take a legacy structure and invest in revitalizing it and bringing the best medical cannabis products to the patients of St. Louis. As with any construction revitalization project, fun challenges always arise, but keeping the character and identity of the building was an exciting project and a labor of love.”
Building renovation partners include architects, MJ12 and general contractor, Spiegelglass Construction.
“We have always been attracted to the city of St. Louis — we feel it’s the heartbeat of the state, and the CWE being next to Forest Park is the heartbeat of the city,” said Riley.
In September, Liberty Cannabis launched its first of four Missouri retail locations in Columbia. St. Louis, Kansas City and Rolla are expected to come online by the end of 2021.
Holistic Industries is the largest privately held multi-state operator in the US operating in nine states. In addition to the Liberty Cannabis dispensaries, Holistic possesses licenses for cultivation and manufacturing in Missouri with a combined facility expected to open later this year.
