JE Dunn Construction, the ninth largest government contractor in the United States, has been selected to design and construct the U.S. Special Operations Command North (SOCNORTH) Theater Operations Support Facility at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo. using a design-build delivery method. The project is being administered through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District for Peterson Air Force Base.
The two-story, 87,019-SF building will serve as a headquarters and command/control center and will feature office space, storage and secure areas. Built to fulfill SOCNORTH’s mission of executing special operations to defend the United States and its interests, the facility is responsible for coordinating and carrying out missions encompassing the continental U.S., Alaska, Canada, Mexico and the surrounding water area out to approximately 500 nautical miles.
JE Dunn Construction partnered with Denver-based AECOM to provide a design-build solution to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for this state-of-the-art facility to further the SOCNORTH mission. Bringing the same team that designed and constructed the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel Restoration project in Colorado Springs and the Ranch Event Center COVID-19 Alternate Care Facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Loveland, Colo., the JE Dunn/AECOM partnership will work closely with the government to execute its vision.
“We worked for two years to assemble our team and produce the best design and price for the federal government. JE Dunn studied this project and was very thoughtful in the way we assembled our professional design team and trade partners,” said Margaret Bowker, senior vice president of JE Dunn Construction.
JE Dunn’s extensive work on recently completed projects in the Colorado Springs area, including the Ent Center for the Arts at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the UCCS Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center, has led to repeat work locally, as well as a trusted partnership with clients like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Extending 15 years and encompassing 23 military bases nationwide, JE Dunn Construction has performed more than $4.3 billion in construction for the federal government.
“We are honored to be a part of this project and continue our long-term relationship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,” said Craig Stearns, federal group leader of JE Dunn Construction. “The military is committed to providing those who serve with state-of-the-art facilities, and we are thrilled to help execute their mission.”
Construction on the design-build project commences November 2021 and is scheduled for completion fall 2023.
