STL women leaders in CRE offer insights and empower others by sharing journeys and challenges

Last Thursday, MetroWire Media hosted an inspiring women’s leadership panel in St. Louis, gathering accomplished professionals to share their experiences and advice on navigating careers in commercial real estate (CRE). Moderated by Erin Valentine of McCarthy Building Companies, the panel emphasized the power of networking, mentorship, and resilience in the industry.

“Networking is awesome. Mentorship is awesome. We don’t need to do things alone,” said Valentine, setting the tone for a discussion that resonated with the audience. The event was held at the Jacobs office and featured insights from leaders who have faced and overcome numerous challenges.

Angela Drumm of Carmody McDonald spoke about the importance of effective delegation and motivation in the workplace. “You have to learn how and when to effectively delegate to maximize productivity and your time,” she said.

Lauren Talley of Cobalt Construction Consulting highlighted the resilience required to succeed in a male-dominated field, sharing, “I had to work twice as hard and twice as long to prove myself, but for those who believe in their path, persistence pays off.”

The discussion also addressed the importance of self-advocacy. Michelle Goodwin of NAI Desco emphasized the need to trust one’s instincts: “If it’s not a ‘hell yes,’ it’s a ‘hell no.’ Trust your gut and lean into opportunities that excite you.”

Amy Luchun of Lamar Johnson Collaborative encouraged attendees to push themselves outside their comfort zones, advising, “Even small challenges can lead to significant personal growth.”

Lisa Moehle of Attori Group underscored the value of a strong support system, both professional and personal. “Knowing when to ask for help and having a network to rely on makes all the difference,” she said, stressing the importance of collaboration in both work and life.

“This panel provided a candid and inspiring look at the careers of successful women in CRE,” said Lisa Shackelford, Partner and Managing Editor of MetroWire Media. “The panelists’ insights on overcoming industry challenges, the importance of mentorship, and balancing work-life responsibilities were invaluable.”

MetroWire Media remains committed to fostering growth and leadership opportunities for women in CRE. MWM STL's next event - Industrial Summit - is scheduled for October 10th from 4-6 PM, offering another opportunity for CRE industry professionals to connect and learn from each other.
