Nebraska Medicine CEO James Linder, MD, officially marked the beginning of construction for the Kearney Cancer Center, as McCarthy Building Companies-Omaha joined hands with Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 27, with Linder himself symbolically 'bulldozing cancer’.
The upcoming two-story outpatient medical facility, costing $33 million and spanning 53,000 SF will specialize in comprehensive cancer care. It will house cutting-edge equipment, including one Linear Accelerator with provisions for an additional unit, multiple exam rooms, infusion spaces, and other essential amenities. With these facilities, Nebraska Medicine will offer a wide range of services, including medical and radiation oncology, infusion therapy, laboratory and pharmacy services, survivorship programs, genetics counseling, and a serene healing garden.
Ryan Felton, vice president of operations at McCarthy, expressed excitement about contributing to the Kearney community's access to cancer care. "The new cancer treatment center is a testament to Nebraska Medicine's commitment to providing its patients top-quality care close to home," he said.
Strategically located near U.S. Highway 30, the Kearney Cancer Center will be part of the forthcoming University Village, a mixed-use development aimed at fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment. This vibrant space will offer educational, residential, recreational, and commercial opportunities to the Kearney community.
Anticipated to welcome its first patients in December 2024, the Nebraska Medicine Kearney Cancer Center is under the architectural expertise of PACT Studios.
