A hard-hat tour and ceremonial signing kicked off the next phase of construction on the Wonderscope Children's Museum in Red Bridge Shopping Center in Kansas City, Mo. last week.
Wonderscope partners and board members celebrated the $15 million project by signing a large partition beam that will be safely sealed into the site's construction. The team plans to continue a series of hard-hat tours over the next few months, as construction of the museum’s interior progresses.
Kansas City’s newest children’s museum will feature ten dynamic exhibit spaces focusing on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) activities, birthday party rooms, classroom spaces and a half-acre of outdoor educational fun.
Now that the pre-engineered metal building structure and structural steel components are in place, the construction team of McCownGordon Construction is adding an energy-saving roofing system with metal roof panels. Insulated, colored wall panels will soon follow.
“The Wonderscope project has been progressing rapidly. It has truly been a rewarding opportunity to see the vision come to life. The building is very unique and will make a great impact on the surrounding communities and the Kansas City metro as a whole. Our constriction team on site, as well as our trade partners, take pride in the fact that we are working on something that will help children learn, play and grow for many years to come,” said Dan West, senior project engineer at McCownGordon.
Other partners on the project include Haizlip Studio, MIG Portico, Paul Orselli Workshop, Dimensional Innovations and CBRE.
The museum is slated for completion in October 2020.
