Last week, the developer of a mixed-use project slated for the River Market officially broke ground. Block Real Estate Services and Cornerstone Associates have commenced construction on 531 Grand Boulevard, which entails 140 new apartments atop 10,000 square feet of retail.
“The location of this property is perfect,” Block Real Estate Services Managing Principal Ken Block said. "It has excellent access to I-70 and I-35 and is exactly one block away from a streetcar stop. Add to the location a first-class multifamily building with upscale amenities, and more than 10,000 square feet of available retail space, and you've got a great addition to the River Market and the downtown Kansas City core."
The project is in line with Block's vision to create vibrant places for local residents to live, work, and play. Mayor Sly James says 531 Grand and projects like it continue to increase the desirability and viability of the downtown core.
"The project is the result of a vision for downtown Kansas City," James said. "Downtown is on fire."
The project is scheduled to debut in December 2017.
