Rose Design Build has completed a new 6,500-SF space for Limitless Brewing in Lenexa, Kan. to accommodate the microbrewery's brewing and taproom operations after it outgrew its previous location.
The new building, located at 9500 Dice Lane, features clear, column-free spans that were achieved using Behlen's PEMB frames. This design approach provides the owners with the flexibility to adapt the space to their changing business needs in the future.
The space is currently split 60/40 between a private production facility and a public taproom, which are connected by a large glass wall. The building has almost 20-foot clear heights throughout, but the use of a black-faced simple-saver insulation system gives the taproom a more intimate environment for patrons.
Rose Design Build's goal was to highlight the functionality of both spaces in the building's aesthetic. The building frames, portal frames and other building systems are exposed, as are every line, valve and tank in the brewing process. This creates a unique visual dialogue about the process of building a structure and crafting beer.
The interior space has an industrial feel that is balanced by the use of vibrant colors and patterns, contemporary lighting and a hand-painted mural by a local artist. Overhead doors in multiple places add to the building's uniqueness and functionality, providing an extension of the taproom onto the adjacent patio.
As a design-build firm, Rose Design Build offers full architecture and construction services for businesses and commercial companies across the greater Kansas City area. The company will celebrate 100 years in business in 2024.
Project partners include Phelps Engineering, 5by5 Engineering, Bob D Campbell & Co. and Dave and Emily Mobley, the owners of Limitless Brewing. The project recently won first place for its category in Behlen’s Building of the Year contest.
