Expansion plans continue to blossom at John Knox Village (JKV), a 300+-acre retirement community in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
The latest project, The Villas, are currently under construction on the campus and includes seven new single-homes, duplexes and triplexes.
“John Knox Village is constructing new and modern buildings and homes as part of a multi-year, multi-phase campus redevelopment strategy. The plan has many goals, most notably to enhance the satisfaction of our current residents and to meet the needs of a changing marketplace,” said Emily Banyas, senior communication specialist with JKV.
JKV is working with Harkrader Construction to replace seventeen existing units with the villa-style homes, which range in size from 1,200 to 1,371 square feet. Each villa includes open floor plans and modern finishes, such as granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
Although construction isn’t expected to be complete until March of 2021, five of the seven new homes have already sold, according to a release from the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC).
“The Villa program has been a big success,” said Eric Scott, director of operations and development at John Knox Village.
Since 2014, thirty-one new villas have been built.
JKV is also in the process of vetting design and finances on Phase 2 of the Meadows Apartments at John Knox Village, which includes a four-story, 116,000-SF building with 52 apartments.
The $20 million apartment addition will lie adjacent to the existing Meadows East building, built in 2018. Bidding is scheduled to begin in January of 2021.
“I’m excited about the Meadows II, and I’m even more excited about the next five years after the Meadows II,” said Scott.
John Knox Village continues to update its rolling strategic plan, which includes campus redevelopment projects for many years to come.
“There has been steady work throughout the campus to build new buildings, expand services and update existing buildings -- there hasn’t been a building boom of this magnitude since the Village’s early days. These extensive projects better serve the needs of our residents and ensure we are ready for the next wave of retirees,” Banyas said.
LSEDC President & CEO, Rick McDowell, said the strategic plan will contribute to the quality of life in Lee’s Summit.
“Our community is projected for major growth in the near future and this addition at John Knox Village ensures that our senior living in Lee’s Summit is prepared to meet the demands of that growth and to offer a high quality option,” said McDowell.
