World’s largest indoor Padel and Pickleball facility opens in St. Louis

In a transformative venture, A. J. Brown has unveiled the completion of Padel + Pickle, a groundbreaking facility nestled in Olivette, Mo. This ambitious project repurposed a former whiskey distillery and manufacturing space into a sprawling 42,116-SF haven for Padel and Pickleball enthusiasts worldwide.

Padel + Pickle, founded by Mike Puertas, introduces a groundbreaking facility featuring six European-style panoramic Padel courts and eight-cushion Master II Pickleball courts, setting a new benchmark for championship-level amenities in the industry. But it doesn't stop there. The venue also features a meticulously crafted bar with lounge areas and state-of-the-art big-screen televisions, locker rooms complete with shower facilities, and a well-stocked pro shop catering to the needs of both novices and seasoned players.

"In our pursuit of creating the world’s largest indoor Padel and Pickleball facility, our vision was twofold: to introduce these thrilling racket sports to our community and to provide a hub for enthusiasts to come together, connect, and elevate their passion for the game," said Puertas.

A. J. Brown spearheaded the extensive renovation efforts, outfitting the building with modern HVAC systems, lighting setups, fire safety measures, and plumbing infrastructure to accommodate the specialized needs of the new facility. Its project team collaborated with Linea Design, Inc. and Fixture Contracting to complete the bar casework, ensuring every detail contributed to fostering a convivial atmosphere.

This meticulously designed bar area offers ample space for socializing and enjoying the action on the courts. Additionally, private restrooms equipped with showers and changing rooms enhance members' comfort and convenience. Meanwhile, the expansive pro shop guarantees players have access to top-quality gear and equipment, rounding out the comprehensive amenities provided by Padel + Pickle.

Navigating regulatory hurdles posed a challenge for the project, as the facility's unique offerings did not neatly fit into standard code enforcement categories. Collaborating closely with the City of Olivette, A. J. Brown, alongside the architect and owner, successfully secured the necessary approvals to bring their vision to life.

A. J. Brown has developed a niche in athletic facilities over the last 15 years through building and renovating gymnasiums, squash courts, fitness centers including for Orange Theory, athletic fields, natatoriums and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) training facilities.

The European game of Padel is a mix between tennis and squash based on strategy rather than strength. Pickleball, a mix between tennis and badminton, is fast-growing as a sport in the United States.
