A June 24th groundbreaking ceremony kicked off construction of a Whataburger restaurant at the intersection of I-70 and MO-7 Highway in Blue Springs, Mo.
Formerly an iconic Winstead's, the Blue Springs location will be the fourth Whataburger restaurant in the metro to open in 2021. Locations in Overland Park, Kan. and Lee’s Summit and Independence, Mo. are expected to open this fall.
The popular, Texas-based fast-food chain plans to completely redevelop the site and replace the existing structure with Whataburger's freestanding drive-thru prototype — which will be open 24/7, 365 days a week.
David M. Block and Phil Peck, CCIM of Block & Company, Inc., Realtors, represented the property ownership group in the long-term lease transaction. The firm will also handle the property management of the 51,143-SF property.
"David and I were excited about the opportunity to work closely with Whataburger and the City of Blue Springs on a number of challenging issues related to several required offsite improvements that allowed us to secure the deal,” said Peck.
The Blue Springs Whataburger location plans to be open for business by the end of 2021. Whataburger plans to hire more than 700 people across the four locations.
