Each year, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce seeks to honor a small business in Kansas City that exemplifies longevity, quality services and community involvement. This year, the Chamber's Legacy Award went to Newmark Grubb Zimmer, a local real estate brokerage firm.
Founded in 1948, the team today negotiates more than 450 transactions a year. It currently manages more than 7.1 million square feet of office, medical, industrial, retail and educational property, and serves as a corporate real estate advisor for a host of local, regional, national and even international companies.
As part of its commitment to the community, the philanthropic arm of Newmark Grubb Zimmer dubbed "NGZ Cares" selects local organizations to support through financial assistance or service projects. Zimmer employees participate in the selection process and then plan numerous events throughout the year to raise money and awareness for those causes. Since 2011, NGZ Cares has worked on behalf of the KU Cancer Center, Wayside Waifs, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Kansas City Zoo Penguin Project, Arts KC, Humane Society, Christmas in October, Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities and Rainbow Center.
