The Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to leveraging sports for economic and community growth, and Visit KC, the official sales and marketing arm for Kansas City's visitor and conference endeavors, have announced a strategic move to a single office space at 1111 Main in downtown Kansas City, Mo.
In a historic move in January 2022, Kathy Nelson assumed the role of CEO for both the Kansas City Sports Commission and Visit KC, making her the first-ever dual CEO in the history of these organizations. This unique leadership position paved the way for a thorough examination of how the two entities could enhance their cooperation while maintaining their distinct identities.
A committee comprising board members from both organizations undertook this evaluation, highlighting shared goals and distinctive strengths. Their conclusion was clear: retaining separate identities while fostering even greater collaboration was the way forward. One of the key recommendations was to bring both organizations under one roof, a move aimed at promoting synergy, efficiency, and mutual success.
The new office, situated on the 34th floor of 1111 Main (formerly known as the Town Pavilion building), was sourced through Colliers.
The 14,830-SF space layout, designed by Helix Architecture + Design, includes a spacious shared office area with Visit KC on one side and the Sports Commission on the other. It also boasts private offices, breakout rooms, conference facilities, and a shared hospitality area for meals and gatherings. Throughout the space, visitors and employees will be immersed in a storytelling experience, with unique branding and one-of-a-kind memorabilia.
"Having served as a board member for both the Sports Commission and Visit KC, I've seen firsthand the impact of the work these two organizations are doing in our community. Crown Center is a favorite visitor destination with 1,500 hotel rooms, which serve convention attendees, sports fans, and leisure travelers. This combined office space, we believe, will help these organizations generate even more business on behalf of Kansas City,” said Stacey Paine, president of Crown Center Redevelopment Corporation.
The Kansas City Sports Commission currently has 14 full-time employees and recently took over the responsibility for Hospital Hill Run, Kansas City's oldest road race. Visit KC boasts 36 full-time employees and is experiencing remarkable growth in the convention and leisure markets. As they continue to drive demand and promote the city, they plan to expand their staffing to effectively brand Kansas City as a vibrant and creative community, connect travelers, support local businesses, and promote local events.
Construction on the new office is projected to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.Top of Form
