Construction has begun on the expansion of the Garmin campus, located at 151st Street and Ridgeview Road in Olathe, Kansas. McCownGordon Construction, with design-build partner Gould Evans Associates architects, are working together on the 720,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution center.
The new development will provide the capacity needed to serve aircraft manufacturers and aircraft owners in order to expand the manufacturing, research and development efforts for the company’s aviation business segment.
Patrick Desbois, vice president of operations for Garmin, said that the new manufacturing and distribution center is an important piece of Garmin’s ongoing success.
“To achieve our goals, Garmin needs a world-class facility to attract and retain the highest level of talent. This project is essential to Garmin’s success and it signals our commitment to our customers, associates, shareholders, and community,” Desbois said. “We are confident that the design-build team of McCownGordon and Gould Evans will deliver the highest levels of value and quality on the expansion.”
“McCownGordon is pleased and honored to serve as the construction manager for this important effort working alongside Gould Evans,” said Ramin Cherafat, chief operating officer for McCownGordon. “We are proud to continue our relationship with Garmin in Olathe to deliver the highest level of quality and value for that company and the greater community as the firm expands and adds jobs for the future. “
The expansion project will include first-class amenities such as a fitness center, cafeteria, and large gathering areas. It will also feature green space amenities such as athletic fields and a two-mile outdoor walking trail.
